iPod Touch Appears to be Holiday Season Winner
MacRumors.com is reporting that Apple’s iPod Touch seems to have been a huge hit this holiday season, with evidence that the device has seen massive gains in market share.
The impact registered in a dramatic increase in early sales numbers for the iTunes App Store on Christmas day. App developers experienced triple or even quadruple sales figures, even for titles that did not appear among the top 100 listings.
Amazon, too, listed the 8 GB and 16 GB iPod Touch as the best selling MP3 players in its electronics section, despite the relatively higher costs of the devices when compared with other MP3 players. In all, iPods of various shapes, sizes, and types accounted for 90% of Amazon’s best seller list. Microsoft’s 120 GB Zune managed to crack the top 10 list at number 8.
The iTunes App Store top 10 paid apps list is still dominated by games and other entertainment applications, however. Currently topping the list is InfoMedia’s iFart Mobile, which seems to be nothing more than a Whoopie Cushion for the digital age. Billed as the “original digital sound machine and entertainment system that brings endless laughs and enjoyment to its users,” iFart offers such features as “security fart,” “sneak attack,” and “fart now,” which only goes to show that no matter how far technology advances, some things—like sophomoric humor—remain timeless.
