What Do People See When They Google You?

Have you ever Googled yourself to see what is out there about you?  Or maybe someone you’re dating to get some background info that maybe they’re not telling you (dating 101)?  Well now Google is allowing you to control what people see, kind of.

The New York Times reported Google announced the release of their Google Me product on Wednesday.  If you type “me” into the search engine the top result is a page to create a Google profile.  If someone Googles your name, your profile will appear at the bottom of the page, along with two other profiles of people with similar names.  Your Google profile consists of as much information as you want to share about yourself with the world, down to your superpowers!  You can also enter information like employment and contact information and upload photos.

If you set up a Google profile that does not mean you can change what information is displayed when someone searches your name.  The same results will still come up that did prior to setting up your profile.  So you may ask, what’s the point?  Well the only thing I see being accomplished by creating a profile on Google is giving your personal information to more people.  So if that’s your goal, go for it.
